Police Follow Jokowi's Directions Not Just Invite Lecturers: For The Common Good

JAKARTA - The National Police have stated that they will follow President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) directions regarding the wives of the TNI-Polri not being able to randomly invite lecturers. Moreover, it is considered as a way to anticipate the spread of radicalism.

"This is for the common good and to mitigate the spread of radicalism," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo when confirmed, Wednesday, March 2.

Then, the National Police will implement the President's directives by providing guidance. However, the technical implementation of the coaching was not detailed.

"Yes (member coaching) is also a part that is followed up," said Dedi

However, if a violation is later found in the presence of the wife of a member of the National Police who invites a speaker at random, then the National Police Propam will take firm action.

"If it is proven that something has been violated, Propam will take firm action against these members," said Dedi. Previously, President Joko Widodo reminded the TNI-Polri ranks to maintain discipline. Not only that, this discipline must also be applied to the families of the officers.

This was stated by Jokowi when attending the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting (Rapim) at the TNI Headquarters Plaza, Cilangkap, East Jakarta. One of the things that Jokowi asked for was that the wives of the TNI-Polri could not arbitrarily invite lecturers.

"In my opinion, the women can't call, gather other women, summon speakers at will in the name of democracy. Again, in the army, in the police you can't do that. Must be coordinated by the unit, the little things, macro and micro. If you invite radical preachers, be careful," said Jokowi.
