SURABAYA - The East Java Police will hold the operation "Semeru Safety 2022" for two weeks, from March 1-14. The East Java Regional Police deployed 3,879 personnel for pre-emptive and preventive activities.

Aris said officers in the field would take repressive measures against eight priority traffic violations. The first is not wearing a helmet, the second is exceeding the speed limit, the third is driving the vehicle not on time.

The fourth was not wearing a seat belt, the fifth was driving a vehicle in a drunken state, the sixth was driving a vehicle with cellphones, the seventh was against the flow and the eighth was an overloaded goods transport vehicle, which was overloaded.

In addition, said Aris, the police are also maximizing the technology that has been installed, such as CCTV cameras or electronic ticketing. By making efforts to improve the modernization of information technology systems in a sustainable manner and encourage IT-based public service innovation.

"As has been done by the East Java Regional Police, especially the East Java Police's Ditlantas, namely E-TLE and INCAR," he said.

These efforts, continued Aris, are very important because based on the results of the analysis and evaluation of the implementation of safety operations in 2020-2021, both violations and traffic accidents have increased. Accidents increased by 70 percent, while violations reached 100 percent.

"This is because public awareness is still low in traffic during the pandemic. They consider there is tolerance from law enforcement officials in carrying out repressive efforts, namely taking action during the COVID-19 pandemic. So they focus more on health protocols than traffic safety rules on the road. highway," he said.
