JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Metro Police have arrested and questioned eight people on suspicion of involvement in the sale of 26 tons of cooking oil above the highest retail price (HET) set by the government.
"We have arrested eight people whose status we are currently conducting witness examinations," said the South Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Budhi Herdi Susianto in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, February 26.
Police investigators are currently digging up information regarding the role of the eight people and criminal acts in the practice of selling cooking oil.
"We then secured the presence of cooking oil which we thought they would distribute, but at a price above the highest retail price," he said.
Budhi explained that the disclosure of this case began when the South Jakarta Metro Police received information regarding the alleged improper sale of cooking oil.
This information was followed up and on Friday, February 25, a cooking oil storage warehouse in Daan Mogot, Tangerang, and two trucks transporting cooking oil were found with a total of 26 tons of cooking oil found.
Further investigation found that they allegedly sold cooking oil at a price of Rp. 17,000 thousand, even though the purchase price from the producer was only Rp. 12,500.
Budhi then explained that the violators found by the police in this finding were selling above the highest retail price and because the sanctions are administrative in nature, the South Jakarta Police will hand over the sanctions to the relevant agencies.
"If we refer to the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 6 of 2022, yes, the threat is administrative sanctions, of course later we will submit it to the competent agency to provide administrative sanctions," he said.
