PK Saiful Jamil Rejected By MA, KPK: The Deeds Done Have Been Proven And Tested

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) appreciates the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) to reject the request for judicial review (PK) of Saipul Jamil. This step is considered as the same spirit in efforts to eradicate corruption.

"KPK appreciates the panel of judges who rejected the PK application," said Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri in a written statement, Friday, February 25.

Ali said this decision also confirmed that Saipul Jamil's act of giving bribes to the clerk had been proven and tested through the trial process. So that in the future, this decision is expected to have a deterrent effect.

Moreover, handling corruption cases as extraordinary crimes does not only talk about law enforcement but also prevents similar acts from happening again.

"The decision confirms that the actions committed by the convict have been proven and tested through a fair trial process," he stressed.

"We need to convey that the paradigm of handling corruption as an extraordinary crime is not only a matter of law enforcement for a sense of justice but how law enforcement can also provide a deterrent effect," added Ali. obscenity case at the North Jakarta District Court. For information, Saipul Jamil was caught in a child molestation case in 2016. The North Jakarta District Court at that time sentenced him to 3 years in prison which was later increased to 5 years in prison based on the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court.

In the middle of the obscenity case, the KPK then arrested Saipul Jamil for bribing the substitute clerk for the North Jakarta District Court, Rohadi. In this bribery case, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Actually, Saipul had to serve a sentence of 8 years in prison for the two cases that ensnared him. But, he got a remission so that he was released in September 2021.
