Anwar Abbas Supports Police To Investigate Scarcity Of Cooking Oil, The Problem Must Be Found

JAKARTA - The Muhammadiyah Central Executive supports the police to thoroughly investigate the causes of the scarcity of cooking oil in the community.

"Full appreciation and support to the police, especially to the Criminal Investigation Unit who will investigate the problem of cooking oil distribution which has caused a shortage and rising cooking oil prices, especially in some areas," said PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Anwar Abbas via a short message received in Jakarta, Between, Thursday, February 24.

Anwar said that in Islam there are several prohibitions such as the prohibition of hoarding basic goods, including hoarding cooking oil for the sake of profit. According to him, as a citizen, we cannot tolerate actions that hurt many people, especially housewives who complain about the scarcity of cooking oil in the market.

"We see the long queues that are very heart-wrenching for us by mothers, where what they do is just to be able to get a few liters of cooking oil they need for their households," he said.

Strict action needs to be given to the perpetrators of hoarding cooking oil who have disturbed many people. Anwar Abbas hopes that the police can solve this problem from upstream to downstream. So that this problem can be handled thoroughly and find the actors behind these actions.

"For this reason, we hope that the Criminal Investigation Unit can immediately find out where the problem points are, whether at the producer, distributor, agent or retail level. Take action against those who have violated the law," he said.

Previously, the National Police's Food Task Force indicated that there were allegations of violations in the distribution of cooking oil that occurred in a number of areas. This scarcity made the price of cooking oil soared and made people scream.

Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi confirmed that he would file a lawsuit if he found a cooking oil speculator that caused a shortage and soared the price of the commodity in the market.

"If there are speculators who violate the law, I will sue. I have spoken to the National Police Chief, Kabareskrim, who has been arrested for immediate legal processing," he said.

The government is currently trying to ensure the smooth running of all cooking oil distribution channels in various regions. "Now the main thing is to run all distribution channels so that they can run, the main thing is that," said Lutfi.
