JAKARTA - Police have arrested Alpin Andria, the perpetrator of the stabbing of Sheikh Ali Jaber during a da'wah event in Lampung. Alpin was detained on the suspect status of the stabbing.

"The AA suspect has been detained since today for the next 20 days," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, to reporters, Monday, September 14.

Apart from that, the detention was carried out to carry out a mental examination of the perpetrator, because there was information that the perpetrator was crazy. The police, he said, had coordinated with a team of doctors for psychological examinations.

In this case, said Awi, his party accused Alpin Andria of the article of serious maltreatment and the emergency law regarding the possession of sharp weapons.

"In accordance with Article 351 paragraph 2 with the threat of imprisonment of 5 years and article 2 paragraph 1 of the emergency law number 12 of 1951 with a penalty of 10 years," he explained.

So far, investigators have examined eight witnesses. In the future, the police will continue to carry out examinations of other witnesses.

Previously it was reported that Sheikh Ali Jaber was stabbed by Alpin while filling an activity at the Falahuddin Mosque, Tanjung Karang Barat, Bandar Lampung City. Sheikh Ali Jaber was injured in his right hand which later received 10 stitches.

The stabbing took place when Sheikh Ali Jaber explained the content in the Al-Fatihan letter to the congregation. There, Sheikh Ali Jaber asked if there were any children who could read Al-Fatihan letter correctly.

Then there was one child who turned out to be able to read Al-Fatihan letter correctly. Sheikh Ali Jaber also called his son and mother to the stage. When the mother and child were on the stage, suddenly the perpetrator went up on the stage and stabbed Sheikh Ali Jaber.
