TANJUNGPINANG - The Riau Islands Province COVID-19 Task Force (Kepri) stated that the total number of people who died from COVID-19 since the March 2020 pandemic until now has reached 1,779 people.

"Three COVID-19 patients died a day ago, so the total number now stands at 1,779," said the Head of the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Eko Sumbaryadi, in Tanjungpinang City, as reported by Antara, Thursday, February 24.

He stated that the Omicron variant cannot be underestimated, even though a number of people who have contracted the virus are asymptomatic.

Therefore, he appealed to residents to remain consistent in implementing health protocols, reduce activities that are less important, and avoid crowds of residents so as not to contract COVID-19.

"The number of people who died from COVID-19 continues to grow, especially this week. Hopefully all COVID-19 patients will recover soon," he said.

He explained that the number of COVID-19 patients had increased by 352 people, bringing the total number since the March 2020 pandemic until now to 57,188 people, spread in Batam 210 people, Tanjungpinang 51 people, Bintan 70 people, Karimun 10 people, and Anambas 11 people.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in Riau Islands since the pandemic until now in Batam is 28,127 people, Tanjungpinang 10,770 people, Bintan 5,874 people, Karimun 5,634 people, Anambas 1,909 people, Lingga 2,315 people, and Natuna 2,559 people. in Riau Islands 74 people so that it becomes 53,013 people. The patients who have just recovered from COVID-19 are 28 people from Batam, 21 people from Tanjungpinang, nine people from Karimun, and 16 people from Bintan.

The total number of patients who recovered from COVID-19 in Batam was 25,678 people, Tanjungpinang 10,043 people, Bintan 5,436 people, Karimun 5,360 people, Anambas 1,799 people, Lingga 2,226 people, and Natuna 2,471 people.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Riau Islands reached 2,396 people, spread in Batam 1,594 people, Tanjungpinang 322 people, Bintan 257 people, Karimun 110 people, Anambas 63 people, Lingga four people, and Natuna 46 people, said Eko Sumbaryadi.
