River Flow Drags 5 Children In Cibeber Cianjur, 3 Survived While 2 Others Died

CIANJUR - Five children in Cibeber sub-district, Cianjur, West Java, were reported missing and drowned while swimming in the Cikondang River. After searching for residents assisted by the SAR Team, three were found safe while the other two died.

Secretary of the Cianjur BPBD, Rudi Wibowo said the exact location of the case was in Citeri Village, Cimanggu Village, Cibeber District. All five are elementary school students.

"One person is male and the other four are female, N (13), NA (12), FE (12), NS (9) and RI (6). They swim without parental or adult supervision," he said. when contacted, Antara, Thursday, February 17.

The five are thought to have been swept away by a sudden swift current. Residents then conducted a search with the help of the joint SAR Team. The Head of Cibeber Sub-district, Epi Rusmana said that the two children who died were suspected of not being able to swim, so they drowned in the swift current of the river

"Two people were found dead and three other children managed to survive after a joint search for the SAR team and local residents was carried out. The three children who were rescued were immediately taken to the local health center for medical treatment," he said.

Meanwhile, for the dead, an external examination was carried out at the local health center and immediately taken to the funeral home for further burial because the family refused to perform an autopsy.

"We urge parents to increase supervision of their children when they are active outside the home. Especially now, school-age children are undergoing an online learning process, so they spend a lot of time at home," he said.
