YOGYAKARTA - Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has again prepared student dormitories as a place of isolation to anticipate the surge in COVID-19 cases due to the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron.

Head of the UGM COVID-19 Task Force, Dr. Dr. Rutamadji, said that his party had prepared the Darma Putra Baciro student dormitory as a place for isolation for UGM community members who were exposed to COVID-19.

"The plan is to open additional isoman places and also cooperate with the regional government for centralized isolation (isoter)," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, February 14.

According to Rutamadji, the isoter will be facilitated by the Yogyakarta Regional Government, the Sleman Regional Government, and the Yogyakarta City Government for patients without symptoms or with mild symptoms.

"Patients with moderate and severe symptoms will be directed to a COVID-19 referral hospital facility," he said.

In handling COVID-19 patients, including screening, tracing, isolation, and treatment, he said, UGM would also coordinate with Gadjah Mada Medical Center (GMC), UGM Academic Hospital (RSaa), and Korpagama Clinic.

Meanwhile, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 when entering the Mixed teaching and learning activities (KBM) at UGM, he emphasized the importance of implementing health protocols by all UGM civitas.

"Even though we have received vaccines and boosters, health protocols must still be carried out strictly in order to suppress the transmission of COVID-19 so that it does not spread further," he said.
