In Three Months, The Malioboro Area Will No Longer Be The Same

JAKARTA - Yogyakarta Provincial Government and City Government will beautify the Malioboro area. The trick is to intensify the repair of various facilities and buildings in the area for three months.

"My hope is that within three months we can do repairs, rehab tiles, waste, water, and so on," said Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X during a press conference on the sidewalk in front of the DIY DPRD Building, Friday. 11 February.

According to the Sultan, after all street vendors moved to Malioboro Terrace 1 and 2, the focus of the Yogyakarta Regional Government and Yogyakarta City Government was to make Yogyakarta's tourism icon comfortable for visitors.

"How the atmosphere here is also more comfortable for those who enjoy Malioboro," said Ngarsa Dalem, greeting Sultan HB X.

So it's not enough just to clean. More than that, it is necessary to check and repair various facilities such as seats, sidewalk conditions, to the condition of building paint in the area.

"We will also take steps for shops and so on, painting, regarding the problem of repairing cable lights, cleaning waste water channels and so on, we will fix everything together," he said.

Because it is part of the cultural heritage, according to the Sultan, the facades or sides of shopping buildings along the Malioboro area will also be repaired.

"We have spoken to the shop owner, where the facade is part of the 'heritage' and they will repair it," he said.

Along with this advanced arrangement, according to the Sultan, the Yogyakarta City Cultural Heritage Center will also hold art and cultural performances every Tuesday and Saturday at the new locations of street vendors, namely at Teras Malioboro 1 and Teras Malioboro 2.

"There may also be other programs that may be arranged by the Cultural Heritage Center in the city of Yogyakarta, be it art galleries or street art along Malioboro," said Sultan.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Mayor Haryadi Suyuti added that in the three-month follow-up arrangement, the colors of the buildings, including the shops in Malioboro, will be harmonized with white paint, referring to the initial conditions of the area.

"We will also see an example of the actual paint in the BPD (building) at the north end of the west side of the Malioboro Cultural Conservation area. So later we will make the colors even more beautiful," said Haryadi.
