Worried That The Commissioner Will Be Caught In A Legal Case, Commission II Of The DPR: Integrity Is Important For Candidates For KPU-Bawaslu Members

JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR will hold a fit and proper test for candidates for members of the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) on February 14-16, 2022.

Commission II also opened the opportunity for the public to provide feedback or input on the 14 candidates for KPU members and 10 Bawaslu members.

Candidates for KPU members consist of 10 men and 4 women. They in alphabetical order are August Mellaz, Betty Epsilon Idroos, Dahliah, Hasyim Asy'ari, I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi, Idham Holik, Iffa Rosita, Iwan Rompo Banne, Mochamad Afifuddin, Muchamad Ali Safa'at, Parsadaan Harahap, Viryan, Yessy Yaty Momongan, and Yulianto Sudrajat.

Meanwhile, the names of the 10 candidates for Bawaslu members consist of 7 men and 3 women. They are Aditya Perdana, Andi Tenri Sompa, Fritz Edward Siregar, Herwyn Jefler Malonga, Lolly Suhenty, Mardiana Rusli, Puadi, Rahmat Bagja, Subair, and Totok Hariyono.

The chairman of Commission II of the DPR Ahmad Doli Kurnia emphasized that integrity is one of the main criteria in the selection of candidates for KPU and Bawaslu members. The reason is, the council is worried and concerned about the legal case that ensnared the former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.

"What is important is the aspect of integrity. As we have seen from experience, it turns out that there are still election organizers who are caught up in legal problems," said Doli in an online discussion, Friday, February 11.

In addition to integrity, continued Doli, Commission II of the DPR also considers the understanding of the candidates for KPU and Bawaslu related elections. Starting from the concept to the technical implementation of the election.

It is expected that the candidates also have good communication skills.

"They cannot avoid communicating with stakeholders and stakeholders who have political interests. They cannot possibly not communicate with political parties, with the government," he said.

"That is, they must be able to position themselves as people who can communicate but still maintain their independence," continued Doli.

Another aspect, continued Doli, the candidates for KPU and Bawaslu members must be innovative and creative. Because he said, the candidates who will serve as members of the KPU and Bawaslu must be able to bring about changes that will make the implementation of elections easier.

"Because elections should become more and more easier for all, especially for voters. We hope that this election is open to using information technology developments, there is a digitalization and electronization process at various stages," said Doli.
