Komnas HAM Says There Are 3 Human Cages In The Langkat Regent's House Who Died

Human cages are like prisons at the house of the Regent of Langkat

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) said there were about three people who were in a cage at the house of the Langkat Regent, who died. This is known after they came directly and asked for information from a number of parties.

"(The victims died, ed) allegedly more than three people," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, February 7.

Anam said the number is very likely to increase. Moreover, the study is still being carried out so far.

"Currently we are exploring again because the potential is also increasing," he said.

Anam said the alleged death toll would later be confirmed to Terbit. So, he hopes that the regent can be cooperative, especially since there are various documents that have been brought by his side.

This includes documents that record the findings of violence, the forms of violence committed, the patterns of violence, and the tools used to commit violence.

"We found a lot of things from conditions, history, conditions to violence, and violence that took lives. Hopefully he (Published Plans, ed) is cooperative because this is his right as well as his right to provide any information according to him," he said.

As previously reported, Komnas HAM's examination of Terbit was carried out at the KPK. The reason is that Terbit is currently a suspect in the alleged bribery of infrastructure in the Langkat Regency Government, North Sumatra.

For information, the existence of a human cage suspected of being a form of slavery at the house of the inactive Langkat Regent Terbit Angin Angin was revealed after the KPK came there to carry out a hand arrest operation (OTT).

Instead of finding Terbit, the KPK team found a number of people confined in an iron cage. At that time they claimed to be oil palm workers on Terbit's land.

Subsequently, this finding was reported by Migrant Care to Komnas HAM. In their report, they stated that the occupants of human cages experienced cruel behavior such as violence, irregular eating, unpaid work while working in Terbit's oil palm plantation and limited access to communication with outsiders.
