PONTIANAK - Pamtas Task Force personnel Yonif Makanis 643/Wanara Sakti thwarted the smuggling of 350 kacer birds in Entikong District, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan.

"We managed to secure the 350 kacer birds, which are wild animals, during an inspection at the Daldul Kotis Post, Pamtas Task Force, Mechanical Infantry Battalion 643/Wns," said RI-Malaysia Pamtas Dansatgas Mechanized Infantry Battalion 643/Wns Lieutenant Colonel (Inf) Hendro Wicaksono in Sanggau quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 5th.

He said the disclosure began when personnel at the Dalduk Kotis Guard Post, the Pamtas Task Force, led by Serda Toni, conducted routine sweeping of cars that passed every odd hour. Then saw a suspicious car and was found to be carrying hundreds of wild animals that were brought without official documents.

"From the results of the examination, our personnel detained a car driver with the initials TN (46) who was carrying 350 kacer birds. After that, further action was carried out in the form of data collection which was then submitted to the Entikong Agricultural and Animal Quarantine for further processing," he said.

From the TN statement, said Dansatgas, hundreds of kacer birds were received from a Malaysian resident in the border area, then the kacer birds were brought into Indonesia via the rat route to be sold in the Sanggau area.

"We have served for nine months here and are committed to guarding the border from illegal acts of any kind, including wildlife smuggling," he said.

Entikong Agricultural and Animal Quarantine Representative Drh Syam Widartoko appreciates the performance of the Pamtas Task Force for the Mechanical Infantry Battalion 643/Wns which often thwarts wildlife smuggling in border areas, thereby creating a deterrent effect for people who will try to smuggle wild animals.

“We thank the Pamtas Task Force for good coordination and cooperation so that we can again save wildlife habitat. In the future, we will release these wild animals into their habitat," he said.
