Surabaya DPRD Suggests ASN Living In Rusunawa To Be Replaced By MBR Residents

SURABAYA - Members of the DPRD suggested that state civil servants (ASN) who had been residents of simple rental flats in the city of Surabaya, East Java, should be replaced by residents from low-income groups (MBR).

"The information I got was that there were a number of ASN in the Surabaya City Government who had lived in Rusunawa Grudo for years. This of course is very concerning because ASN who have received a fixed salary and allowances can certainly be independent and not dependent on the flats," said a member of Commission A. Government Sector of the Surabaya DPRD Josiah Michael in Surabaya, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 3.

According to him, the ASN should hand it over to the people who need it more, in this case the MBR.

Moreover, the cost of managing Rusunawa in Surabaya is already in deficit, so that ASN who have received salaries and allowances should not burden the Surabaya APBD.

"It's different if the MBR is indeed the responsibility and must be supported by the government," he said.

Therefore, he continued, his party hopes that the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, can immediately evaluate the ASN who live in the flats, considering that the queue of residents who want to live in the flats currently has reached 12 thousand people.

"I will propose that this issue be included in the Raperda for Decent Occupancy, one of which regulates flats. The Raperda is currently still being discussed by the Bapemperda (Perda Formation Agency)," said Josiah who is also the Chairman of the Surabaya DPRD Bapemperda.

Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Armuji previously said that the Rusunawa was a comfortable alternative for low-income residents in Surabaya.

"Currently, the queue for rusunawa residents has reached more than tens of thousands and of course the capacity is adjusted according to the priority scale," he said.

Currently, there are 20 flats managed by the Surabaya City Government. From the tens of flats, continued Armuji, the Surabaya City Government will list which flats will be the priority for maintenance first given the limited budget.

The 20 flats include Rusunawa Urip Sumoharjo, Dupak Bangunrejo, Sombo, Penjaringansari, Warugunung, Wonorejo, Tanah Merah, Randu, Grudo, Pesapen, Jambangan, Siwalankerto, Romokalisari, Keputih, Bandarejo, Gununganyar, Dukuh Menanggal, Tambak Wedi, Rusun Indrapura and Acne Tripe.
