COVID-19 Cases In Tanjungpinang Are Dominated By Overseas Travel

TANJUNGPINANG - Head of the Tanjungpinang City Health Office, Riau Islands Province, Elfiani Sandri stated that the pattern of the spread of COVID-19 in the area is currently more dominated by travel from outside the area and close contact.

According to him, it is possible that the case has not been detected during the trip, which was only detected when it was tracing.

"The pattern of spread of cases is due to people traveling or close contact with travelers from outside the Riau Islands Province," said Elfiani Sandri in Tanjungpinang, as reported by Antara, Thursday, February 3.

Sandri said the situation in Tanjungpinang had been in zero cases or the Green Zone in December 2021.

However, he said, COVID-19 cases in Tanjungpinang had increased again in January 2022. According to him, almost every day there were additional patients in the local area.

"Almost every day there are additional cases. Finally, there were 18 people, so that currently there are 35 active cases," he said. In addition, he continued, the Tanjungpinang COVID-19 Task Force also conducted tests on positive patients. This is to detect the possibility of an incoming Omicron variant.

"We will continue to run testing and tracing to overcome the spread of COVID-19 in Tanjungpinang," he said.

He further advised the public not to panic with the new variant of Omicron. Nevertheless, the public is asked to remain disciplined in carrying out health protocols, especially wearing masks and maintaining distance.

"For those who have not been vaccinated, immediately vaccinate at a health facility for vaccination," he said.

Based on data from the Tanjungpinang COVID-19 Task Force, Thursday, February 3, the number of active cases in Tanjungpinang city was recorded as 35 cases, 10 people undergoing treatment at the hospital, 3 people undergoing treatment at the Regional Government Mess, and 22 people undergoing independent isolation.
