MATARAM - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights West Nusa Tenggara (Kemenkumham NTB) investigated the cause of the chaos that occurred at the Bima Detention Center (Rutan) last Tuesday, February 1.

"We are investigating the cause from the clarification of the detainees," said Head of the Regional Office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Haris Sukamto, by telephone, Antara, Wednesday, February 2.

From the clarification, the riot that resulted in 17 prisoners escaping from the Bima detention center was related to the legal process that was being carried out by a prisoner. The prisoner admitted that there was something wrong with the legal process of the trial.

Apparently that was the reason for provoking the other prisoners to create chaos in the prison.

"So they want to get out of prison because they want to protest to the prosecutor and the court," he said.

Regarding the reason, he said, his party has forwarded it to the prosecutor's office and the court.

"I have asked the team from the detention center to directly coordinate with the prosecutor and the court, I ask that this issue can be handled and resolved properly," he said.

Haris said that 14 of the 17 detainees who escaped in Tuesday's incident had returned to prison. The other three are still being searched.

It was confirmed that Haris had coordinated with the families of the escaped prisoners. Search support was provided by the Kodim 1608/Bima Team and the Bima City Police.

Regarding the evaluation of this incident, Haris ensured that the Bima Rutan was taking the right action, namely providing understanding to the detainees to cooperate in maintaining security and order in the prison.

"We urge there to be no more commotion," he said.
