JAKARTA – The surge in cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Jakarta has continued to creep up in the last few days. However, this increase is expected by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, not to make people panic.

Anies acknowledged that Omicron cases in various other cities in the world also showed a significant increase. However, this can be anticipated with discipline in implementing health protocols.

"We have seen that in many other cities in the world the spike is happening very quickly. On the other hand, don't panic because generally the symptoms are mild, or have no symptoms or moderate symptoms," said Anies after visiting the Hian Thian Siang Tee Bio Temple in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. , Tuesday, February 1st.

According to Anies, the symptoms of patients exposed to the Omicron variant tend to be mild-moderate, or even asymptomatic.

Therefore, if you feel symptoms, residents should immediately do a swab test. Then if you are declared positive but have no symptoms, you should immediately self-isolate with discipline so as not to infect those around you.

However, if the symptoms are serious, residents must go to the nearest health center or health facility to get treatment.

So far, the former Minister of Education and Culture assesses the hospital occupancy rate or "bed occupancy ratio" (BOR) in Jakarta is still under control.

"We hope this does not increase so that there is no need to reduce activities because we know that population mobility must be controlled if the hospital occupancy rate increases," said Anies.

Meanwhile, based on data from the DKI Provincial Government, cases of the Omicron variant increased until last Monday.

Of the 2,892 infected people, 1,581 were overseas travelers, while 1,311 others were caused by local transmission.
