2 Villages In Kebasen Banyumas Submerged By Flood

PURWOKERTO - Floods inundated two villages in Kebasen District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.

"Based on the report we received, the flood flooded Kalisalak and Sawangan villages due to heavy rain that occurred since 15.00 WIB," said Kebasen Head Wahyu Adhi Fibrianto, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 28.

According to him, the flood was caused by the overflow of the Perwaton River which was clogged with garbage and bamboo.

The Kalisalak and Sawangan village governments, Wahyu continued, have actually anticipated the possibility of floods by widening the channel.

"Earlier in the day, Kebasen region rained heavily and for a long time, plus a lot of rubbish, until the Perwaton River was blocked and eventually overflowed," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Kalisalak Riyatno Village Services Section said the heavy rain that occurred since 15.00 WIB caused the Perwaton River water discharge to increase.

"Furthermore, at 16.00 WIB, there was a bamboo stuck under the Perwaton River bridge, so that the garbage carried by the river was also stuck. Until finally the river flow was blocked and overflowed into the streets and yards with stagnant water reaching 30 centimeters," he said.

He said after the rain began to subside, Kalisalak villagers worked diligently to get rid of bamboo and garbage that blocked the flow of the Perwaton River, so that the flood waters gradually receded.
