JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian reminded governors not to abuse their authority as representatives of the central government.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that the delegation of authority related to the role of the governor as the representative of the central government (GWPP) could be maintained and carried out properly.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs in his briefing at the technical coordination meeting (Rakortek) of the governors as representatives of the central government (GWPP) at the Merusaka Hotel Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali.

The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that this authority is not an absolute right carried out by the governor. However, this authority is a delegation from the central government to the governor who carries out the role as a representative of the central government according to the principle of deconcentration.

"When this authority is misused, the central government can take over that authority," said Home Affairs Minister Tito, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 28.

In addition, the central government will also intervene to improve it so that the stability of the political wheel in district/city governments can be maintained.

The abuse referred to, for example, is in the form of deliberately delaying the evaluation process of the Regency/City Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget Draft (RAPBD) or transferring it to take months.

As a result, the wheels of district/city government do not run smoothly, are unstable, and have an impact on the wider community.

"Because the provincial leadership has certain interests and we see this can be counter-productive because it is negative, because the government in the district/city is not working," said Tito.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that GWPP's task is to become a communication bridge between the central government and district/city governments. If the role is carried out properly, it will support the running of the government.

In addition, the Minister of Home Affairs hopes that the Coordination Meeting for the GWPP equipment will not only be a ceremonial event. However, this activity can provide an understanding to the governors so that they are able to carry out their duties as representatives of the central government properly.

"When it runs effectively, relations with (government) level II (regencies/cities) can be well embraced, programs can be harmonized, so there is no need for problems that can actually be resolved at lower levels to the president," said the Minister of Home Affairs. Tito.
