Land Dispute Conflict, Forkopimda Maluku Visits Ori-Kariuw To Attempt Mediation

AMBON - Maluku Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) Inspector General Pol Lotharia Latif again visited Kariuw Village, Haruku Island District in the context of peace mediation, Thursday, after meeting the residents of Ori and Pelauw on Wednesday, January 26 evening.

He said the visit of the Maluku Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) in Pelauw and Kariuw Countries, apart from seeing the post-conflict situation and conditions, was also evidence of the presence of the state to provide a sense of security and comfort to citizens on Haruku Island.

"We will record the losses arising from this conflict," he said.

He admitted by mutual agreement that the community wanted this conflict to be the last. Therefore it expects support from all levels of society.

"We hope for the support of community leaders, religious leaders and traditional leaders in realizing peace in Pelauw and Kariuw Countries, and in general on Haruku Island," he asked.

In addition, Pangdam XVI/Pattimura Maj. Gen. Richard Tampubolon said the objects visited by his party, such as church buildings, looked intact, not affected by the conflict.

"We urge the public not to be triggered and provoked by hoax news circulating in the community," he said.

He said that his party had taken joint steps and made it a priority scale based on the development of the situation and conditions on the ground.

"Forkopimda Maluku is here to provide solutions to the community. We ask for the support of community leaders, religious leaders and traditional leaders so that there will be no follow-up conflicts in the future," he hoped.

In line with the Pangdam, the Deputy Governor of Maluku Barnabas Orno, also stated that the Maluku Forkopimda was there to help people who were victims of this conflict.

"We invite the people of the two countries to be able to knit the harmony of the lives of the Basudara people," he said.

The Kapolda's visit to Central Maluku Regency was not alone. He had time to pick up the Commander of the XVI/Pattimura TNI Major General Richard Tampubolon at the Haruku Police Headquarters.

Together with the Deputy Governor of Maluku Barnabas Orno, Kapolda, Pangdam, Regent of Central Maluku and Forkopimda and other stakeholders who went directly to Kariuw.

In Kariuw, the top officials from the National Police, TNI, and Regional Government saw the situation and condition of the country after it was involved in a conflict with its neighboring village, Ori, Pelauw Country.

The Kapolda, Pangdam, Deputy Governor of Maluku, Regent of Central Maluku and their entourage checked Kariuw's domestic conditions, such as housing residents, the Ebenhazer Church, and Kariuw State Elementary School.

To note, the conflict between the two neighboring villages broke out in the early hours of last Wednesday. The clashes were motivated by land issues. Both sides claim disputed land on the border of the two warring areas.
