MADIUN - The Madiun Police Team arrested the perpetrator of the hit-and-run on the Madiun-Surabaya Toll Road Kilometer (Km) 622,180 A, to be precise in Klumutan Village, Saradan District, Madiun, East Java, which killed two people.

The container truck driver, identified as Sukiman (51), a resident of Taraban Village, Pagodaan District, Brebes Regency, Central Java, has been named a suspect.

"Currently, the truck driver has been named a suspect and has been detained at the Madiun Police Headquarters for further investigation purposes," said Madiun Police Chief, AKBP Anton Prasetyo when holding a press release at Madiun Police Headquarters, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

According to him, the disclosure of hit-and-run cases on toll roads was helped by the presence of surveillance cameras or CCTV along toll roads and arterial roads.

The chronology of the traffic accident began when the two victims, namely Sudarto and Junianto, were checking the right rear tire of their truck with police number S-7876-UP on the KM 622,180 A toll road Madiun-Surabaya on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Suddenly, from behind, a container truck with police number B-9110-UEW driven by the suspect Sukiman came and hit the two victims.

"The perpetrator felt that he just grazed the truck and had time to get down for a while to check, then fled," said Anton.

The police immediately gave chase after the accident. Officers checked CCTV along the toll road and several locations on arterial roads. The perpetrator is suspected of exiting the toll road from the Nganjuk Toll Gate (GT).

"From the Nganjuk GT CCTV, it is known that the truck turned towards Nganjuk. From the CCTV, it was also found that the container truck belongs to a company based in North Jakarta," he said.

Anton said the police are coordinating with the company to track down the container truck being driven by the suspect. Through the results of coordination with the company that owns the container truck, officers continue to comb along the road to Surabaya to find the perpetrators.

Madiun Police Traffic Unit officers then checked CCTV along arterial roads, one of which was at the Front One Ratu Hotel, Nganjuk. From there, the truck could be seen driving east until it was traced to the truck base belonging to the company at the Krian Sidoarjo "by pass".

"Through cooperation with the Sidoarjo Police, we managed to secure the perpetrator and his vehicle at the truck base on the same day," said Anton.

During the investigation, several pieces of evidence were found. Officers found evidence on the inside of the truck tires. In addition, the truck's rearview mirror was installed new, but not to the original size.

Not only that, the police also found the rearview mirror dropped at the scene. Finding the rearview mirror at the scene then became a clue to chase the hit-and-run perpetrator.

For his actions, the perpetrators were charged with Articles 310 and 312 of the Indonesian Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Transport Traffic with a threat of imprisonment from 6 to 12 years.

In addition, the Madiun Police Traffic Unit also revoked the suspect's driver's license for life, because the suspect was deemed unfit to drive on the highway.
