KPK: We No Longer Use The Term Operation Catch Hands, But Catch Hands

JAKARTA - The head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said his agency no longer uses the term sting operation (OTT).

There is also this OTT activity that is often carried out to capture perpetrators who are detected as carrying out bribery transactions.

"Allow us to convey that we are no longer using the term arrest operation but hand arrest," said Firli during a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR at the parliament complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, January 26.

"Why because in a known legal concept is caught red-handed," he added.

Firli said that every arrest was of course not solely carried out. The KPK, he continued, would first take an approach, including in the prevention aspect.

"Before we arrest someone, of course, we have carried out three previous approaches. Starting from public education efforts, prevention efforts through the monitoring center for prevention (MCP)," he said.

As previously reported, the KPK conducted OTT four times in January 2022. As a result of this activity, three regional heads and one judge were named suspects.

On Wednesday, January 5, the KPK arrested the Mayor of Bekasi, Rahmat Effendi. A week later or Wednesday, January 12, it was the turn of the Regent of North Penajam Paser, Abdul Gafur Mas'ud, to be arrested by the KPK.

Subsequently, the KPK team moved again and succeeded in arresting the Regent of Langkat, who published a Wind War Plan on Tuesday, January 18th.

Finally, the KPK arrested Judge Itong Isnaeni Hidayat along with two other people, namely a substitute clerk named Hamdan and a lawyer who is also a representative of PT Soyu Giri Primedika, Hendro Kasiono.
