PKB: Election Schedule For February 14, 2024 Ends Speculation Of Postponed Presidential Election

JAKARTA - Commission II of the House of Representatives together with the Government and the KPU have agreed on a Simultaneous Election voting day covering the legislative and presidential elections to fall on February 14, 2024.

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKB faction, Luqman Hakim, emphasized that the decision also ended speculation regarding the extension of the president's term of office. This means that the 2024 election will not be postponed to 2027. "The decision to vote on the 2024 election on February 14 ends public speculation that there are parties who want to thwart the 2024 election in order to extend the presidential term," said Luqman in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 25.

Luqman claimed that from the beginning the PKB faction had proposed that the 2024 election vote be held between January and March 2024. Therefore, he considered the KPU's proposal to be in line with PKB's view.

"February 14 is a day of love that is commemorated by people worldwide, so PKB hopes that the 2024 General Election will run peacefully and with quality," Luqman said.

Commission II of the DPR will again hold a meeting with the government and election organizers, in this case the KPU and Bawaslu.

Previously, KPU chairman Ilham Saputra said that based on careful consideration, the KPU set the voting day to fall on February 14.

"Polling day is planned to be held on February 14, 2024, so February 14 is Wednesday, Wednesday is the day the general election is held from year to year," Ilham said in a meeting at the DPR Building, Monday, January 24.
