Police Chief: 1,062 Polsek Authorities Changed Only For Kamtibmas, No Longer Conducting Investigations

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said as many as 1,062 Polsek in 343 Polres throughout Indonesia are no longer investigating legal cases. The authority of the thousands of Polsek was changed only for security and public order (Kamtibmas).

"1,062 Polsek in 343 Polres whose powers have been changed are only for the maintenance of Kamtibmas, they do not carry out investigations," Listyo said during a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, January 24.

Furthermore, said the National Police Chief, these Polsek members focus on fostering the community, and solving problems through restorative justice and mediation approaches.

"The focus is on fostering the community and solving problems through a restorative justice and mediation approach," he said.

The National Police Chief explained that the members of the Polsek will receive special training to gain the ability to carry out the functions of community development, intelligence, sabhara, and case management.

To support this policy, Listyo continued, the National Police has launched an online Binmas application to assist in reporting and training officers in the field.

"The National Police has launched the Binmas online system v2 application which helps reporting and training Bhabinkantimnas officers in the field. In 2021 it will be used by 38,189 bhabinkamtibmas personnel or 97.93 percent of the 38,995 bhabinkamtibmas personnel," Listyo explained.

With this application, continued Listyo, supervisors at the Polda and Headquarters level can find out problems in the field.

"In this application, the function builder at the Polda and Headquarters level can find out the problems that develop in the field. So they can provide instructions, directions, and assistance to help the bhabinkamtibmas in problem solving or problem solved in the field," said Listyo.

Previously, the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo issued a decision by the National Police Chief regarding the appointment of the sector police (polsek) only for the maintenance of public security and order (kamtibmas) in certain areas and no longer conducting investigations.

It is recorded that there are 1,062 police stations throughout Indonesia that are no longer conducting case investigations, based on the Decree of the National Police Chief Number Kep/613/III/2021 dated March 23, 2021.
