JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is the second president to stop in Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra, after President Soekarno, who was present in the city in 1952.

President Jokowi admitted that he was very happy during his working visit to Pagar Alam City today.

"Today afternoon, I am truly happy because I can be present in Pagar Alam City. 70 years ago Bung Karno was here, namely in 1952 and at the same point, here, thank God," said the President in the Field Merdeka, Pagar Alam City, Monday, as quoted by Antara from a statement from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Monday, January 24.

The President's arrival to Pagar Alam City also left a deep impression on the people who welcomed him. "You have indeed been awaited in Pagar Alam City. This longing is very deep because this city was attended by the President (Soekarno) at the same point 70 years ago. then in 1952. That longing was answered when you were here. The community was excited to welcome you since you came down from Atung Bungsu Airport earlier," said the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru.

Herman hopes that President Jokowi will feel comfortable when he is in the city that has the cool air. In addition, Pagar Alam City is also known to have friendly residents and has many historical stories.

"A city full of history, its citizens are proud of because many generals were born here, because they have a good work ethic," said Herman.

During a working visit to Pagar Alam City, President Jokowi appreciated the local government's efforts to make Pagar Alam City a green energy city. In addition, the President also had the opportunity to visit Dempo Permai Market to distribute direct cash assistance to traders.

After leaving Pagar Alam City, the President will return to Palembang City and then take off to Tanjung Pinang City, Riau Islands.
