At The Beginning Of The Year, Two Inmates Had Escaped From Lahat Prison, Minister Yasonna's Subordinates Immediately Asked For A Thorough Evaluation

JAKARTA - Officials from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) South Sumatra are trying to improve the security of prisons and state detention centers to prevent prisoners from escaping or escaping.

"The case of prisoners / correctional inmates (WBP) escaping from the Class II A Lahat Correctional Institution is a serious concern and is expected to be the last incident," said Head of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Indro Purwoko in Palembang, Saturday, January 22, as reported by Antara.

Cases of escaped convicts are quite common. Earlier this year alone, this has happened twice.

First, an inmate at the Class II B Empat Lawang Prison with the initials Ri is known to have escaped on Sunday (2/1) around 12.30 WIB, by jumping the fence.

Inmate Ri, a resident of Lubuk Layang Village, Pendopo District, Empat Lawang Regency, South Sumatra is a drug convict who was sentenced to nine years in prison and has only served six months in prison.

The second incident was that an inmate of a drug case in Lapas Class II A Lahat with the initials EP, a resident of Kota Jaya Village, Lahat Regency, reportedly fled the prison on Saturday (15/1) morning.

The drug convict, who only has one more year remaining in prison, escaped after successfully tricking the main gate guard (P2U) by arguing that he asked for permission to meet his son in the courtyard outside the prison.

This incident has become an evaluation material for the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office staff so that it does not happen again.

To prevent the recurrence of similar cases, it is necessary to find the root of the problem and solve it thoroughly and be given strict disciplinary sanctions in accordance with PP 53/1999 with light, moderate, to severe sanctions or dismissal as employees of the Head of Police, Karutan, and all guards/guards who proven negligent in carrying out their duties or involved in helping inmates/inmates escape.

Then closing the gap for escaped convicts by ordering all Kalapas and Karutan to evaluate the improvement of the administrative system in appointing WBP as companion prisoners (Tamping), fostering the Zero HALINAR program (free from the use of gadgets/mobile phones, extortion, and drugs) on a regular basis, as well as repairing facilities and equipment. security infrastructure such as adding surveillance camera/CCTV points in all prisons and detention centers, as well as raising fences and adding barbed wire.

Conduct early detection of disturbances in the security and orderliness of prisons and remand centers, routinely control in the field such as in the prison block alley area, exit and entry doors to prisons/remand centers as well as iron bars in every residential room.

This weak point must be addressed properly, so that cases of prisoners escaping from prisons and remand centers can be prevented in the future, said Kakanwil Indro Purwoko.
