JAKARTA - The Department of Trade and Industry of the City of Kediri, East Java, conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) to a number of modern markets in the City of Kediri. They are following up on the central government's policy which currently applies a price of packaged cooking oil of Rp. 14,000 per liter.
The Head of Trade at the Department of Trade and Industry of the City of Kediri, Salim Darmawan, explained that this inspection activity was deliberately carried out to ensure whether retail market management complied with the rules from the center to apply one cooking oil price or not.
"We deliberately monitor several networked retail locations in the city of Kediri, such as Alfamart, Indomaret, Hypermart, and Transmart. From the results of our monitoring, the price of Rp. 14,000 per liter has been applied," said Salim in Kediri, Wednesday, January 19.
He also added that the existing stock at the modern market location is also a lot. However, the management also applies a maximum purchase limit of 2 liters per consumer, thus preventing wholesale action. The policy is also installed at the location of the cooking oil stand, so that buyers also understand.
Regarding the policy of applying one price in traditional markets, Salim said the city government is still providing concessions for them. However, all is also left to the consumer to buy it.
"We are giving leeway to adjust the new price. We are also still waiting for the direction of the Ministry of Trade. For other modern shops, we ask for immediate coordination with their respective cooking oil suppliers," he said, as reported by Antara.
The government is currently officially implementing the cooking oil policy of one price of Rp. 14,000 per liter for all types of packaging starting Wednesday (19/1).
Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi in Jakarta asked the public not to carry out wholesale actions in large quantities because supplies are guaranteed to be adequate.
The government will also prepare 250 million liters of cooking oil per month. The supply will be carried out for six months so that the total supply reaches 1.5 billion liters.
The one-price policy was implemented because the government subsidized the economic price from producers and the market price.
Lutfi also added that the price of IDR 14,000 per liter can be enjoyed by consumers who shop at modern retail members of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo). Meanwhile, the one-price policy in traditional markets will be implemented in stages no later than a week since the policy began.
