British Caucasian Who Died By Suicide In Bali Had Abused His Girlfriend, Hit A Stall And Ran Away From The Hospital

DENPASAR - Denpasar Police Chief, Kombes Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, revealed that British citizen Harper Matthew (48) who died by suicide apparently crashed into a shop in the Sanur area, South Denpasar, Bali.

This British foreigner was widely reported after he committed suicide at the Samatha Citra Kuta Housing Block A/8 Taman Giri Mumbul neighborhood, Benoa Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali on January 13.

Kombes Jansen said that three days before being found dead by suicide, Harper had a traffic accident in the Suwung Kauh area, Sanur, Denpasar. He hit the stall with the car he was driving.

"The cause of bruising on the victim, so we also found that the autopsy results showed bruises. It was an alleged blunt force trauma, judging by the color, it was estimated that the wound was one to three days before death", said Jansen at the Denpasar Police Headquarters, Bali on Wednesday, January 19.

"From the results of the development that we did, it turned out that three days before (died) the victim had a traffic accident he had hit a shop. So earlier, if it was associated with the bruises, it was confirmed that it was the result of an accident that occurred three days earlier", he added.

After the accident, Harper Matthew was taken to Bali Mandara Hospital in Denpasar. But before he could be examined, Harper Matthew escaped from the hospital.

"So, at that time the victim was taken to the Bali Mandara hospital, but no further examination was carried out. The victim left the hospital or fled", said Denpasar Police Chief.

British Caucasian Harper Matthew was also found by residents sleeping on the overhang of a shop in the Sanur area, after escaping from the hospital.

"The information we received was like that (sleeping on the overhang of the shop) in Sanur after running from the hospital, someone found him sleeping on the overhang. He hit him with a car and this accident was also handled by us", he said.

It doesn't end there. The victim is also known to have abused her girlfriend, Emmy Martha Pakpahan, on Tuesday, January 4. Then, his girlfriend reported him to the Kuta Police, Bali.

"Ever abused his girlfriend. What was reported was still Dumas (community complaints) at the Kuta Police. But it was still in the process at that time, then during the investigation process between the victim and the complainant, his girlfriend made peace. So the case of abuse has been reconciled", he said.

Meanwhile, from witness statements, it is known that the victim was depressed or had excessive anxiety and consumed antidepressant drugs.

"In body fluids, we found alcohol and drugs. And some witnesses said that he (the victim) was in a state of depression or excessive anxiety so he took drugs and he also had epilepsy from the testimony of existing witnesses", he said.
