Kupang Residents Find AK-47 Assault Rifle Complete With 96 Bullets While Fishing, Police Step Into Investigate

KUPANG - The Kupang Police are investigating the discovery of 96 bullets and three magazines for the AK-47 assault rifle which were found by residents in Tuapukan village, Kupang district while fishing in Tuapukan River.

"Currently we are investigating where the bullets and magazines came from and the location where the bullets and megazens were found has been given a police line," said Kupang Police Chief, AKBP Aldinan Manurung, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 19.

The bullets and magazines that were found were rusty and were thought to have been in the Tuapukan River for a long time. The police have provided a police line at the location of the discovery to prevent residents from entering or avoiding potential explosives such as bombs.

A number of these bullets are usually used for AK-47 assault rifles. But judging from the physical form, Aldinan ensure that it can not be used again.

"We are also coordinating with Brimob to make sure the location is safe or not," he said.

The police have examined two witnesses for this shocking finding. On Thursday, January 20, several witnesses will be called again.

The assault rifle was found by Yakob Nggadas (31), a resident of RT 01/RW 01, Tuapukan Village, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency, along with his father, Alex Nggadas (64), Tuesday, January 18.

These ammunition and firearms magazines were found in black plastic bags while fishing in Tuapukan River, RT 01/01 Tuapukan Village just behind their house.

The findings of ammunition and firearms magazines were then reported to the police at the Kupang District Police so that the police began to examine a number of witnesses and carry out further investigations.
