JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirms that the KPK is not lying about its search for fugitive Harun Masiku. Tumpak Hatorangan, chairman of the KPK Supervisory Board, said that his party knew the location of the search for the former PDI-P candidate.

"If he (KPK) does the activity, we know it, so it's not a lie," said Tumpak in a press conference broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Tuesday, January 18.

Not only that, Tumpak also said that the movements of the search team for Harun Masiku were continuously monitored. This is because each movement will begin with a request for permission from the KPK Supervisory Board.

"They first asked our permission to conduct house-to-house searches. We know that," he said.

Tumpak said that his party also always asked for the latest developments regarding the search for fugitives from the KPK, including Harun Masiku. Thus, the request for an audit that is often submitted by Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) to the leadership by the KPK Supervisory Board has actually been carried out.

"If we do an audit, of course we don't. But we have been asking the leadership since 2020. In fact, we always ask why, where is the problem," said Tumpak.

As previously reported, ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana said an audit should be carried out by the KPK Supervisory Board because the search for former PDI-P (PDIP) candidate Harun Masiku, the suspect in the bribery case regarding the interim replacement (PAW) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, has stalled. In fact, the former chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) has been on the run for two years.

"For ICW, two years is sufficient for the Supervisory Board to conduct a large-scale audit of the stalled search for Harun. This is also in line with the supervisory function as stipulated in the KPK Law," Kurnia said in a written statement to reporters, Tuesday, January 11.

This audit is also considered important because ICW is concerned that certain party officials are involved which makes the KPK reluctant to arrest Harun. At least, there are a number of parties who feel it is important to be questioned regarding this failure.

"First, the commissioner of the KPK," said Kurnia.

"Second, the Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK. Third, the former KPK employee who was previously assigned to find Harun but was dismissed through the National Insight Test. The three statements will illustrate the main problem why Harun seems protected by the KPK," added the anti-corruption activist.
