PULANG PISAU - A joint team consisting of TNI, Polri, and Natural Resources Conservation Agency personnel found the body of a resident who was reportedly attacked by crocodiles in a watershed in Paduran Sebangau Village, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan.

Pulang Pisau Police Chief AKBP Kurniawan Hartono in Pulang Pisau, Sunday, said that the resident who was attacked by the crocodile was identified as Samsul (17), a resident of Murung Raya Village, Bakumpai District, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan.

"The victim has now been brought by his family to be buried in his hometown," he said, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 16.

According to Kurniawan, Samsul was reportedly attacked by a crocodile in the waters off Muara Sampang in the village of Paduran Sebangau on Thursday, January 13 at around 15.00 WIB, when he was attaching a rope to a wood in the water.

"From the statement of the victim's co-worker, the incident was very sudden and fast. The victim was attacked by a crocodile from behind, then dragged to the middle of the river. The crocodile was large with a length of about five meters," he said.

After the incident, residents immediately tried to find Samsul using a traditional boat and reported the unfortunate incident to the Sebangau Kuala District Police.

Kurniawan appealed to residents to be alert and careful when activities on the banks of the river, especially in rivers where crocodiles usually appear.
