DPR Member Habiburokhman Criticizes Komnas HAM About Raping 13 Santriwati: Predatory Bastards Should Be Sentenced To Death

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, regretted the attitude of Komnas HAM which rejected the demand for the death penalty for the defendant in the rape case of 13 students in Bandung, West Java, Herry Wirawan or HW. Moreover, Komnas HAM considers the death penalty to be contrary to human rights principles.

"We criticize Komnas HAM, if he doesn't agree with the death penalty, there will be a moment to convey it, like yesterday when discussing the Criminal Code. In the explanation of the Criminal Code Bill, it is clear that the implementation of the death penalty is still possible under certain conditions," said Habiburokhman at the DPR building, Thursday, 13 January.

According to Habiburokhman Komnas HAM lacks empathy in determining its stance on this issue. According to him, Komnas HAM should prioritize the interests of victims and their families.

"How do the victims feel, the children's feelings, the family's feelings. Hearing this statement from Komnas HAM seems to have no empathy for Komnas HAM," he said.

"Please protect the feelings of the victims and the people whose sense of justice has been torn apart," Habib continued.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party admitted that he had the same thoughts as Komnas HAM regarding the death penalty. However, he underlined that sexual predators like Herry Wirawan deserved the death penalty.

"In the case of Herry Wiryawan, I generally reject the death penalty, but for sexual predators, especially children, I agree that the person should be shot in the head," said Habiburokhman.

He was furious if severe punishment was not imposed on sexual predators.

"That's a predatory bastard like he should be sentenced to death," he said.

Previously reported, Komnas HAM stated that it did not agree with the demand for the death penalty imposed on Herry Wirawan, a defendant in the rape case of 13 students in Bandung, West Java. Komnas HAM considers the death penalty contrary to human rights principles.

"Komnas HAM does not agree with the implementation of the death penalty because it is against human rights principles," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara, Wednesday, January 12.
