NTT - Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorology Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to passenger ships and fishing boats to be aware of high waves in about five water areas in East Nusa Tenggara.

The five territorial waters are the northern waters of Flores Island, the southern part of the Sawu Sea, the Flores-Lamakera Strait, the Alor-Pantar Strait, and the southern waters of Kupang-Rote.

"Waves with a height of 2.5-4 meters have the potential to hit some of these water areas, so there is a high risk for fishing boats and ferries," said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.

He explained that the high wave conditions are expected to last from January 13-15, 2022.

Syaeful said that in addition, the threat of very high waves ranging from 4-5 meters also occurred in the southern region of NTT, namely the Indian Ocean in the south of Sumba-Sabu and south of Kupang-Rote. cruise.

Syaful appealed to operators of ships transporting passengers or goods as well as fishing boats to be aware of the threat of high waves.

Maximum waves can reach twice the existing wave height, he said.

He added that related to the synoptic wind conditions in NTT, the wind generally blows from the south to the west with a speed of 2-8 on the Beaufort Scale.
