Jokowi Will Provide Input On The 2024 Presidential Candidate, PDIP: So That The Direction Of The Government In The Future Is One Breath

JAKARTA - PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would provide input to PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri regarding presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election. This is so that what the current government is doing can be continued in the future.

"Of course we want continuity with Pak Jokowi's government. So that Pak Jokowi provides input to the General Chair so that the direction of the government going forward is in line," Hasto told reporters at an online press conference, Monday, January 10.

This synergy or unity, continued Hasto, was deemed necessary because President Jokowi had carried out a lot of development in the strategic sector. For example, building infrastructure, mental revolution, to the plan to move the country's capital to East Kalimantan.

"So the next president must be in one breath. It is impossible for the future president to have a different orientation to move the capital to a place in the middle of nowhere. It must be in the same breath," said Hasto.

Furthermore, Hasto said, Megawati always advised that PDIP should not be in a hurry to determine or announce who the presidential and vice-presidential candidates would be.

Moreover, in determining the name of the candidate, Megawati will reflect more and engage in dialogue. Not only that, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia will not be swayed by his choice.

So, whoever is elected will not change at the end of the nomination period.

"Mrs. Mega makes political decisions, always starting with a dialogue with reflection, by looking at the challenges of this nation in the future, seeing how this person is," said Hasto.

"If Mrs. Mega has made a decision, it is usually fixed, not changing," he added.

While waiting for Megawati's decision, the party is also continuing to consolidate. This step was taken to prepare victory for the candidate carried by the party bearing the bull symbol.

"While waiting for that, the party will continue to take steps to consolidate. So that the presidential candidate's victory is not the work of an individual but a collective power that unites with the people," he concluded.
