Had Escaped And Caught, Inmates Of Lubukbasung Prison Died In Prison In Condition Hanging Rafia Rope

LUBUKBASUNG - A resident of the Lubukbasung Penitentiary, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Syafrizal alias Paron (34), was found dead hanging from a raffia rope in the solitary cell room, Monday, January 10.

The head of the Lubukbasung Prison, Suroto, said the inmates were found dead when officers carried out their morning patrol.

"Officers found the victim hanging from a raffia rope in the construction cell," he said in Lubukbasung, as reported by Antara.

He said his party had contacted the Agam Police to investigate the cause of death, as well as with the Manggopoh Health Center. From the results of the officer's investigation, it is strongly suspected that the victim was a pure suicide.

"Furthermore, we made a report to the Head of the Regional Office of the West Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Correctional Division of the West Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights," he said.

He added that the inmates in the narcotics abuse case, who was sentenced to 5.4 years, were arrested at Simpang Bodrek, Jorong IV Surabayo, Nagari Lubukbasung, Lubukbasung District, Friday, April 16, 2021.

The inmates, who had just served a six-month prison term, escaped from the prison by climbing over the fence on August 28, 2021.

He was arrested in Tiku, Tanjungmutiara Sub-district on Friday, January 7, and a member of the Agam Poles shot Paron's left calf as a result of trying to escape.

Then he was treated at the Lubukbasung Hospital and handed over to the Lubukbasung Prison, early Sunday, January 9.

"We put him in solitary confinement for the time being with his hands in plastic cuffs alone in the cell. The plan is for an examination on Monday, January 10," he said.
