The Story Of A Doctor Who Was Beaten While Forcibly Picking Up A COVID-19 Patient In Batam

JAKARTA - A doctor at the Embung Fatimah Regional General Hospital, Batam City, was beaten by a resident when he was about to forcibly pick up the corpse confirmed by COVID-19.

"Our doctor was hit," said Batam City Health Office Head Didi Kusmarjadi in Batam, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, August 26.

According to Didi, the doctor who was beaten was in relatively good condition and immediately continued serving the patient.

However, for the beating case, Didi will report it to the police.

JZ is a referral patient from Harapan Bunda Hospital and has tested positive for COVID-19, based on the results of a swab test.

"The patient died. And again he wanted to be forcibly taken home," said Didi.

At that time, the victim's relatives insisted on carrying YZ's body and the hospital did not allow it because the patient died in a confirmed positive status for COVID-19.

The hospital and the victims' relatives had a tough discussion. And finally it was agreed to continue carrying out the monitoring of the body according to the COVID-19 protocol.

Meanwhile, in a statement from the Batam City COVID-19 Task Force, it was stated that JZ, a 63-year-old resident of Batuampar, died Tuesday, August 25.

JZ was confirmed positive No.492 who complained of chest pain accompanied by cough with phlegm and bleeding. JZ died after being treated intensively at the Embung Fatimah Hospital.

On a separate occasion, the Governor of the Riau Islands Isdianto asked residents to be wise and not to forcibly take bodies that were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

He understands the family's feelings about carrying out the corpse with confirmed COVID-19, but residents still have to refrain.

"Who does not love family, all dear. Who has the heart, all do not have the heart. But the current condition," he said.
