JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the condition of Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Kazakhstan is in good condition, in the midst of the volatile condition of Kazakhstan due to protests against the increase in fuel prices and the resignation of the government.

Spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said that the condition of Indonesian citizens in Kazakhstan is currently in good condition, with the Indonesian Embassy in Nur Sultan having made an appeal for the necessary steps.

"WNIs are generally good and the Indonesian Embassy has issued an advisory on how to respond to this development," he said when contacted by VOI on Friday, January 7.

Previously in a video statement, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tajikistan Fadjroel Rachman said there were a total of 141 Indonesian citizens in Kazakhstan and three people in Tajikistan.

A number of appeals were also issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Nur Sultan for Indonesian citizens in Kazakhstan, to ensure their safety and security.

"Based on President Jokowi's directives, people's safety is the highest law, and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi's direction is that we prepare a 24-hour hotline to deal with this situation," said Ambassador Fadjroel Rachman.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and prepared all plans up to the contingency stage to deal with this state of emergency situation," he said.

Earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency on January 4. This is valid from 5 to 19 January. Simultaneously, a curfew was imposed from 23:00 to 07:00 local time in Almaty City and Mangystau Province, in line with community demonstrations.
