Mother-daughter Killed By Lightning In West Muna, Southeast Sulawesi

KENDARI - Muna Police, Southeast Sulawesi explained that the death of a mother named Umi Barira (40) and her son Tamlikul Fatha Imama (12) due to being struck by lightning in Labokolo Village, Tiworo Tengah District, West Muna Regency.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Muna Police, Iptu Hamka, said the incident occurred during heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in Labokolo Village on Thursday, January 6. The two victims were invited by their Muslim husband (43) to take shelter under their house.

"It happened at around 00.30 WITA under the house. Muslim brothers and their families took cover using tarpaulins under the house," he said, quoted by Antara.

While under the house, the victim's husband then sounded the call to prayer to calm himself down with his family. At that moment, there was a sudden sound of thunder so loud that it made the stilt house vibrate. But the husband continued the call to prayer until it was finished.

After pronouncing the call to prayer, the victim's husband saw his wife lying on the ground holding her small child.

Muslim then picked up his wife and corrected her position and secured the child who was carrying the victim. The victim's husband saw his son lying on the ground not far from his mother.

“Then the father picked up the victim and laid him on a pile of wood. Muslim then contacted the family to help evacuate the victim," said Hamka.

The results of the doctor's examination, the victim Umi Barira had burns and the victim Tamlikul also had burns with some of his hair charred.
