PAPUA - Class II Immigration Offices of TPI Mimika, Papua continue to monitor the presence of illegal foreigners (WNA) who commit immigration violations in the form of violating visas or not having a permit document to employ foreigners (IMTA).

The Head of the Immigration Enforcement Subsection at the Class II Immigration Office of TPI Mimika Harlo Biantong said that although foreigners entering Timika were very limited, it did not rule out the possibility of such violations. The majority of foreigners in Papua work as employees of PT Freeport Indonesia or subcontracting companies.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020, the number of foreigners entering Timika has decreased somewhat so that law enforcement against foreigners who commit immigration violations is indeed reduced. work," said Harlo in Timika, Antara, Wednesday, January 5.

In this regard, Harlo asks for cooperation and support from all levels of society to notify if he finds any foreigner suspected of committing immigration violations.

In 2021, the Mimika TPI II Immigration Office deported one foreign national of Kazakhstan on behalf of Izzabenkov Nurcambec. The person concerned was deported back to his home country in May 2021 because he was proven to have violated immigration documents.

"He works as an airplane mechanic. While his residence permit was not intended for that, he was deported back to his country. He should have used document 211 B, but he used document 211 A," explained Harlo.

In order to prevent the entry of illegal foreigners into Mimika, the Mimika TPI II Immigration Office stationed officers at Timika's Mozes Kilangin Airport.

"On average foreigners who enter Mimika now have complete documents, especially expatriates who work at PT Freeport Indonesia and a number of its subcontractor companies," said Harlo.

Several years ago the Mimika TPI II Class Immigration Office deported many illegal foreigners from China, Korea, Japan and several other countries.

Dozens of foreigners, especially from Tiongkat, were arrested from an illegal gold mining location in the Nabire Regency area and in an illegal iron sand mining area in Pronggo Village, Central West Mimika District.
