KPK Reminds BNPB Not To Corruption, Alludes To Procurement Of Goods And Services To Become A Vulnerable Sector

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) not to be corrupt. Moreover, in disaster management, one of the vulnerable sectors is the procurement of goods and services.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chair of the KPK, Alexander Marwata when receiving an audience with the Head of BNPB Suharyanto and his staff at the KPK Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta on Wednesday, January 5.

Alexander emphasized that BNPB must anticipate corruption in the procurement of goods and services so that it does not occur in the midst of disaster conditions.

"BNPB can certainly deal with disasters because the community needs quick and immediate help. However, what is very crucial is ensuring that the process of procuring goods and services is in accordance with the correct procedures," Alexander said in a written statement.

Meanwhile, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri said that currently there are four national problems that must be faced, namely natural disasters. In addition, there are also non-natural threats such as the dangers of drugs, terrorism and radicalism, as well as the dangers of corruption.

"KPK and BNPB have different tasks to tackle the nation's problems, but require coordination with each other in order to fulfill these tasks and most importantly be able to carry out the country's goals for the security and welfare of the people," he said.

In response to this, the Head of BNPB Suharyanto agreed to pay more attention to the process of procuring goods and services in disaster management.

In addition, BNPB will request assistance from the KPK to provide understanding and training on this matter.

"Don't let it be because of our ignorance and misunderstanding, what we had good intentions turned out to be wrong and included in the crime of corruption," he concluded.
