As reported by Antara, the BMKG through its official website quoted in Jakarta, explained that the earthquake occurred at 03.55 WIB with the location of the earthquake being about 182 kilometers (km) northeast of Wakatobi.

The coordinates of the earthquake were at 4.91 South Latitude-125.18 East Longitude.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the middle of the sea at a depth of 569 kilometers.

The BMKG noted that the 5.8 magnitude earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
