JAKARTA - Lecturer Bahar bin Smith was arrested after being named a suspect in a suspected hate speech case. However, not long after, Bahar bin Smith immediately applied for a suspension of detention.

"Last night (the application for a suspension of detention, ed). The receipt is there," said Bahar bin Smith's lawyer, Ichwan Tuankota, to VOI, Tuesday, January 4.

In the request for a suspension of detention, said Ichwan, Bahar bin Smith's friend became the guarantor. However, it is not specified who the guarantor is.

"Only from his friends. Only one person," said Ichwan.

Bahar Smith has been named a suspect in the alleged hate speech case. In fact, Bahar was decided to be detained, on Monday, January 3, night.

"His status was upgraded and he became a suspect," said the Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Ibrahim Tompo.
