JAKARTA - Bahar bin Smith's attorney, Ichwanuddin Tuankotta has spoken about the status of a suspect in alleged hate speech to his client. "The super-fast legal process that takes 17 days from reporting to investigation that ends in detention indicates the death of the principle of equality before the law when compared to the law enforcement process carried out against religious blasphemers who are in the circle of power that until now after many years. has not been touched by the law," he said when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, January 4.

Ichwan also protested the West Java Police investigators who detained Bahar Smith for reasons of fear of running away, eliminating evidence and repeating the crime. In fact, all this time, Bahar Smith has been cooperative and immediately complied with the investigator's summons.

"If it is related to the cooperative attitude of HBS (Habib Bahar Smith), the reason for the detention has absolutely no legal basis. HBS is a citizen who respects legal procedures as evidenced by his cooperative attitude, he immediately complied with the first summons of the police as a witness," he asserted.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Ibrahim Tompo, confirmed that Bahar Smith (BS) has been detained at the West Java Police Detention Center, after being named a suspect in a case of spreading false news or hoaxes.

He said Bahar Smith had been detained since Monday, January 3 night after being questioned until 21.00 WIB. Bahar was named a suspect after investigators obtained two pieces of evidence in the case of spreading the hoax.
