Fisherman Who Disappeared When Struck By Lightning In Situbondo Waters Found, Death Toll Increased To 5 People

SITUBONDO - Sabar Utomo (25), a fisherman who previously disappeared when his boat was struck by lightning in the waters of Wonorejo Village, Banyuputih, Situbondo, East Java, was found.

Patience Utomo was found in a lifeless state after being adrift for approximately two days at sea. With the discovery of Sabar Utomo, five fishermen died as a result of the boat being struck by lightning.

The Situbondo BPBD Pusdalops officer Puriyono said Sabar Utomo was found not far from the point where the boat was struck by lightning.

"The victim was found floating in a lifeless condition around the waters of Tanjung Wedi, southeast of Pandean Beach," said Puriyono, Monday, January 3, 2022.

The bodies were immediately evacuated using rubber boats belonging to the Situbondo BPBD and the Jember SAR Post and Basarnas heading to the shoreline of Pandean.

"The evacuation process went smoothly without any problems. Arriving at the beach, the bodies of the newspapers were immediately taken home by their families using the local health center ambulance to the funeral home for burial," he explained.

As previously reported, a boat carrying as many as 20 fishermen was struck by lightning while catching fish in the waters of Pandean Hamlet, Wonorejo Village, Banyuputih, Situbondo, Friday afternoon December 31.

In this incident 15 fishermen were declared safe. The other 5 died. The victims who died were Wagiso (55), Danil (22), Misyono (40), M Ilyas (38), Sabar Utomo (25). All of the victims were residents of Wonorejo Village, Situbondo.
