DPR Chair Puan Maharani Invites People To Be Optimistic To Welcome 2022

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, invites the Indonesian people to remain enthusiastic and optimistic in welcoming 2022.

"It doesn't feel like a year has passed, which means that Indonesia has been facing the COVID-19 crisis for almost two years. I hope the public remains optimistic that we can quickly get out of this pandemic condition," said Puan in a written statement quoted by Antara, Friday, December 31.

Puan explained that Indonesia had faced various problems throughout 2021. He invited the public and policy makers to introspect together regarding the spike in severe cases of COVID-19 that occurred in mid-2021 due to the Delta variant.

“At that time the conditions were quite alarming where hospitals were full, it was difficult for people to access health services, including the crisis of oxygen and medicines. Many health workers fell and the death toll was not small," said Puan.

He was grateful that Indonesia was able to get through the storm and the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic is much better. Learning from it, he invites to continue to be vigilant and disciplined in implementing health protocols so that there will no longer be a spike in cases.

This is important, he said, because the new variant of Corona Omicron has now entered Indonesia. Even so, Puan asked the public not to panic, but to be careful and wise in carrying out their daily lives to avoid the spread of CPVID-19.

"Make sure you and your family are protected from COVID-19. One of them is by supporting the government's vaccination program. Especially for children's vaccinations, which are now running,” said Puan.

Puan said the acceleration of economic and social recovery is largely determined by the ability to anticipate the spread of the pandemic. In addition, in strengthening immunity and adapting to the new socio-economic system, namely living in a situation of uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Therefore, through the constitutional function of the House of Representatives, the Republic of Indonesia takes part in taking roles and responsibilities in handling the pandemic, working together with the people in building a new social and economic order in the COVID-19 pandemic situation so that it can accelerate the national social and economic recovery," said Puan. .

In the supervisory function of the implementation of the 2021 APBN related to fiscal policy, the DPR RI is said to be focused on overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, the national social and economic recovery program, and the completion of the National Strategic Program.

Puan said the budget for the pandemic prevention and National Economic Recovery (PEN) program was directed at handling health, social protection, and support for the business world.

Puan ensured that the DPR will continue to work as much as possible for the sake of the people. He invited the public to participate in supervising the work of the government, executive institutions including the DPR, and the judiciary.

"Happy New Year 2022. Let's welcome the new year with high spirits, Indonesia can overcome all the storms that exist. Hopefully in the new year, we will be better, and the people will be more prosperous so that Indonesia will become even greater. Let's move forward together," said Puan.
