Evi Novida Officially Returns As A KPU Commissioner

JAKARTA - Evi Novida Ginting Manik is officially working again as a Commissioner for the General Election Commission (KPU) RI for the 2017-2022 period. This was decided in the plenary meeting of the KPU leadership.

Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Arief Budiman, said the results of the plenary meeting in writing would be sent to the DPR RI, the Honorary Council of Election Administrators (DKPP), the Election Supervisory Body, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"For now, Mrs. Evi will be assigned again as Coordinator of the Technical Division. Currently, there has not been any change in the division of tasks, either based on the area of the coordinator or based on our division," said Arief at the KPU RI Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 24.

Arief said, Evi's reappointment in the KPU commissioners was based on the revocation of Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 34 / P / 2020 by President Joko Widodo.

The Presidential Decree contains the dishonorable discharge of a member of the KPU for the 2017-2022 period, Evi Novida Ginting. Now, Jokowi has re-issued Presidential Decree No. 83 / P / 2020 which was published on August 11.

"When the dismissal is revoked, then we send it to several parties to reactivate all rights and obligations that must be attached and become the responsibility of Mrs. Evi," said Arief.

Evi is grateful for his re-appointment as Commissioner of the Indonesian KPU and carrying out the task of holding the 2020 simultaneous regional elections.

"Hopefully I can continue with the current (pilkada) stages. Of course, as a member of the KPU, I will carry out this responsibility with integrity and professionalism," said Evi.

As reported, on March 23, Jokowi dishonorably fired Evi from his position as Commissioner of the KPU. This decision is based on the decision of the Honorary Council of Election Administrators (DKPP).

On March 18, DKPP dismissed the Indonesian KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik because he was considered to have intervened in the vote acquisition and determination of the Elected Candidate for Members of the West Kalimantan Provincial DPRD VI.

Evi was fired because he held the position of commissioner in technical affairs and who should be responsible for this problem. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the KPU and other commissioners received the final harsh warning sanctions.

Evi did not stay silent. He challenged this decision to the State Administrative Court (PTUN). Evi thought that there was something wrong with the DKPP decision (the basis for Jokowi's dismissal) which considered the KPU to violate the code of ethics.

The PTUN then granted Evi's lawsuit regarding his dismissal. The PTUN obliged President Jokowi as the defendant to return Evi's position as Commissioner of the KPU.

Until finally, Jokowi revoked Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 34 / P / 2020 concerning the dishonorable discharge of a member of the KPU for the 2017-2022 period, Evi Novida Ginting. Jokowi decided not to appeal.
