Komnas HAM Receives 2,721 Complaints Throughout 2021, Most Police Complaints

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) revealed that there were thousands of complaints that had been submitted to it until December 15.

This report is submitted by the community to the head office in Jakarta as well as representatives in regions such as Papua, Central Sulawesi, Aceh, West Kalimantan, West Sumatra, and Maluku.

Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik said the reports submitted at the head office reached 2,516 complaints. Meanwhile, the remaining 205 complaints were received in six representative offices.

"Throughout 2021 until December 15, Komnas HAM at the head office in Jakarta has received 2,516 complaints. Meanwhile, 205 complaints were received at six representative offices in Papua, Central Sulawesi, Aceh, West Kalimantan, West Sumatra and Maluku," said Taufan when presenting his notes. The end of the year of Komnas HAM conducted online, Tuesday, December 28.

Taufan then detailed the complaint areas or the places where the most violations occurred. In the first position, the most complaints were in DKI Jakarta with 368 complaints.

"Furthermore, West Java 286 complaints, North Sumatra 228 complaints, East Java 218 complaints, and South Sulawesi 127 complaints," he said.

The parties with the most complaints from the public were the police with 661 complaints, private corporations with 379 complaints, the central government with 236 complaints, the regional government with 229 complaints, the judiciary with 132 complaints, the prosecutor's office with 84 complaints, and the TNI with 73 complaints.

"While the classification of rights that were most frequently reported was the right to welfare for 945 complaints, the right to receive justice for 820 complaints, and the right to a sense of security with 162 complaints," he concluded.
