DKI DPRD Curious About How Governor Anies' Calculations Can Pull The UMP Increase By 5.1 Percent

JAKARTA - Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD will soon explore the basis for the revision of the 2022 DKI Jakarta Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) increase from 0.8 percent to 5.1 percent by asking for an explanation from the Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Office (Disnakertransgi).

Coordinator of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, said that an explanation from the Manpower and Transmigration Office was needed. Moreover, if referring to Government Regulation (PP) Number 36 of 2021 concerning Wages, it mandates that the average increase in the UMP is only 1.09 percent.

"So we ask Mr. Andri Yansyah (Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Office) to provide a clear and rational explanation regarding the increase in the UMP," said Prasetyo at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building, Monday, December 27.

This explanation is needed because of the fact that there are still many entrepreneurs who are not financially stable or are struggling to recover after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Because this effect has reached warteg traders and small businesses. I feel sorry for the workers too, but now we must also be aware, we have just faced a very extraordinary pandemic," he said.

"Well, we have to give a rational one. I ask what the basis of this policy is," said Prasetyo.

In the same location, the Secretary of Commission B of the DKI DPRD, Pandapotan Sinaga, asked the Manpower and Transmigration Office to clearly explain the calculation formula and reference to the regulations used to make the policy.

"We emphasize that we have never hindered the increase in workers' wages, which we question about the process. The rules of the game must be clear, the process is to determine the minimum wage," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Manpower and Transmigration Office, Andri Yansyah, explained that the determination of the 2022 UMP has been discussed by the Wage Council and involves elements of the government, trade unions and employers.

"Even though during the discussion with the Wage Council there was no agreement, but the Governor had to decide. Agree or disagree, because each element has a proposal," he said.

In addition, Andri also explained that the figure had referred to the projections of Bank Indonesia related to economic growth, the Institute For Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) and a study by the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas).
