JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) asked universities to form a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) in the campus environment.

"No later than next year there will be a PPKS Task Force at every campus in the country," said the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education and Technology Prof. Nizam in Jakarta, Monday, December 27.

"Not only for state campuses, but also for private campuses. This aims to ensure the campus is healthy and safe," he added, quoted from Antara.

He said private universities that had difficulty forming a PPKS Task Force could cooperate with other universities or coordinate with the Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti).

Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 30 of 2021 concerning Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education Environments which was stipulated on August 31, 2021 in an effort to prevent and overcome the problem of sexual violence in the campus environment.

According to the regulation, which consists of 58 articles, universities are required to make efforts to prevent sexual violence through learning, strengthening governance, and strengthening the culture of the student community, educators, and education staff.

Efforts to prevent sexual violence through learning can be done by requiring students, educators, and education staff to study the prevention and handling module of sexual violence set by the ministry.

In addition, universities need to formulate policies that support efforts to prevent and deal with sexual violence in universities, form task forces, develop guidelines for preventing and handling sexual violence, and limiting meetings between students and educators and/or education personnel outside campus operational hours and/or outside the campus area.

According to government regulations, universities must also provide sexual violence reporting services; train students, educators, education staff, and campus residents to make efforts to prevent and deal with sexual violence; periodically socializing guidelines for the prevention and handling of sexual violence on students, educators, education staff, and campus residents; as well as posting information on complaints services regarding sexual violence.
