Involve All PWNU And PCNU, Gus Yahya: The Agenda Forward Is To Revive 'Gus Dur'

BANDARLAMPUNG - KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf, as Gus Yahya is familiarly called, said that he would involve all Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management (PWNU) and Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Branch Managers throughout Indonesia to achieve common goals.

"I think the election of the chairman is a thrilling moment because I know there is a lot of work to be done after being elected," said Gus Yahya, when questioned in Bandarlampung, Friday, December 24.

However, Gus Yahya said that he was heartened and had made an agreement with all levels of NU management throughout the archipelago to start a way of working in such a way.

"So that we can all be serious in working together, bearing the burden together, moving in rhythm to achieve a common goal. So I am very heartened," he said.

Regarding the program that will be carried out, Gus Yahya emphasized that the future agenda is to bring "Gus Dur" to life.

"For the program, in short, as I keep repeating, the agenda for the future is to bring "Gus Dur" to life. We know that this is not a simple concept but people's imaginations, I think all of my friends' imaginations are about "Gus Dur". will be able to catch what I mean by bringing "Gus Dur" to life," he said.

According to him, all this time Gur Dur did everything he did alone and there was no one who might be able to replace him after the person concerned was not around.

"But all nahdliyyin clearly still need the function of "Gus Dur", needing his role and presence, so we must try to build a strategy so that NU as an organization can be present like "Gus Dur", so that when people feel what NU is doing, service given they can feel again, as if "Gus Dur" is here again among us," he said. KH Yahya Cholil Staquf was elected as the General Chair of PBNU for the period 2021-2026 after winning over the incumbent KH Said Aqil Siroj, in the election of the PBNU General Chair which was held at the 34th NU Congress in Lampung.

Gus Yahya won 337 votes, while Kiai Said Aqil received 210 votes out of a total of 548 votes, both from branch, regional and overseas administrators, while one vote was declared invalid. This was reported by Antara.
